The open source organisation recently announced a $650m turnover last year and has two main products; Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Middleware as well as other systems management solutions.

Max McLaren general manager Red Hat A/NZ said if a company wants to start an open source practice, it can help them via its Sales College.

It can also provide discounts on training and opportunities to share leads and marketing.

He said 50 percent of the company's business goes through the channel but it wants to increase this to 60 percent.

"There is a big focus this year to enable partners in technology and business promoting our go-to-market campaign," said McLaren.

"Our Enablement Campaign a new marketing initiative enabling our partners to offer our products.

"If you are moving from a Windows to a Linux environment you need to train staff, help them move the application and install new hardware. We are actively recruiting more partners this year and we are going to create a more solution based proposition with virtualisation."

Paul Barge partner account manager Redhat APAC said resellers need to differentiate themselves in the market as the downturn is creating a challenging IT environment for partners.

"We are creating an opportunity for them to drive down costs and get more performance from their operating system," he said.

Recent wins for the company include Eurocar, Infoplex and Corporate Express.

"There has been a growth in the open source application and we offer an enterprise ready solution that resellers can tap into," said Barge.

"It's a great opportunity to move and partner with a manufacturer. The Linux and open source story is so relevant at the moment. "

The company has a two tier distribution model with Ingram Micro and itX and has a subscription based pricing policy which customers can buy through the channel.
