Basically, there are two kinds of opportunities here: One is for people who want to learn how to use the ubiquitous basic suite of Microsoft business software, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. You can just go to a Microsoft portal to start those with no voucher.
The other (vouchers needed) is for people who want to become certified in workplace computer technology or become information technology (IT) professionals.
Two certifications are available for specializing in the Microsoft programs used in most offices. That’s a great item for your resume if you’re seeking office work.
The other vouchers allow you to learn how to become a real techie – a system administrator, Web developer, etc. Certification as one of those can lead to a well-paying job in a field that is projected to be in demand. Just a note: The courses are free, but exam fees are not.
A WorkSource Washington map will guide you to your county’s resources and a guide on how to file for a voucher.
Microsoft’s Elevate America initiative is aimed at spreading 1 million vouchers nationwide, in partnership with state agencies like WorkSource Washington, which has great job seeker resources.
