The outbreak and rapid spread of swine flu should not lead to a state of panic, experts have said.
##CONTINUE##
Analysts at Gartner suggest that the threat of the disease becoming a pandemic should act as a 'wake-up call' for IT managers to get their systems ready for any potential changes to business operations.
Technology professionals must understand that vulnerabilities are not limited to certain locations and should roll out changes keeping that in mind.
Roberta Witty, research vice-president at the firm, advised: 'Starting today, IT managers should meet with senior executives, line-of-business managers and other high-level decision-makers to answer any questions [and] should be made aware of the seriousness of this pandemic preparation that will ensure a broad, ongoing commitment to this effort.
'IT managers should plan, test and add capacity to ensure the sustainability of what is likely to be a predominantly work-at-home environment.'
So far five people in the UK have been affected with swine flu.
