Google releases Android 1.5 Cupcake SDK for developers

Earlier this evening, Google announced that it is making a pre-release version of the Android 1.5 software developer kit (SDK) available to developers. This next version of the Android OS is based on the famed Cupcake branch of the open source smartphone operating system.
The Android 1.5 SDK features programming interfaces for things like virtual keyboards, home screen widgets, speech recognition, and live folders. There is also an updated version of the plugin for the Eclipse Java programming environment.

Starting with this version of the SDK, multiple versions of the Android OS will be supported. The new pre-release, for example, allows developers to write apps for both Android 1.1 and the new Android 1.5 platforms. Developers can download the Android 1.5 SDK here.
