Intel: More Layoffs Announced

Intel officials said Monday that more layoffs are planned for the company.

Intel spokesperson Liz Shipley said the new round of layoffs were being introduced as an efficiency improvement measure.

Shipley would not say exactly how many people would be affected but she said it was "significantly lower" than the 100 to 200 layoffs Intel announced in January. The January layoffs impacted mainly manufacturing groups, said Shipley.

Shipley said Intel is still committed to New Mexico. The company in February announced that it plans to invest $2.5 billion in its Rio Rancho facility over the next two years.
