Nvidia - which last week was bleeding through a $150 million fourth-quarter loss and a 60% decline in revenue - now claims its new Intel-challenging ARM-based Tegra 600 computer-on-a-chip can deliver a $99 list price, always-on, always-connected HD mobile Internet device (MID) that can go days between battery charges, 10 times better than what Intel Atom-based netbooks can do.

Nvidia pictures a device for social media applications such as Facebook and YouTube, as well as recording and watching HD movies and videos on the go - sort of a lifestyle thing.
A Tegra MID is supposed to be a complete software solution.
Nvidia is talking Windows Embedded CE, application viewers, full Internet browser, UI framework and a web mail client and claims it will deliver 720p and 1080p video playback, full Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity and optimized hardware support for Web 2.0 apps. It'll toss in a board support package (BSP) and an SDK.
Besides partnering with Microsoft, Nvidia is in bed with ST-Ericsson for the 3G capabilities. Apparently they've developed a Windows Embedded CE implementation using ST-Ericsson's high-volume U335 modem solution and the Tegra widgetry that's ready for customer design development.
ICD, a consumer ODM, has signed up to build such widgets, which could go for $200 - or nothing at all with a carrier subsidy.
Tegra, which is smaller than a dime, is called the first single-chip computer capable of rich high-definition and Internet experiences.
Expected to ship in the second half, it's also going to support Google's Android smartphone OS.
