The recession will drive the uptake of software-as-a-service hosted application licenses in Australia in the next couple of years.

That is according to the technology analyst IDC, which has forecasted that the leasing of software will outgrow other delivery methods from its 2008 market share at seven per cent of IT spending to nine per cent by 2011.
In particular, the market intelligence firm highlighted that this trend will be significantly witnessed in the software and service solutions, as opposed to hardware.
Jean-Marc Annonier, IDC's research manager for IT spending, suggested that this "trend" will outgrow the entire Australian technology market in 2009.
He said: "This presents an opportunity for technology vendors and partners to stimulate technology spending by providing leasing and financing solutions to their clients."
