Tech alert: more all-in-one “contraptions” are hitting the geek shops soon. Be prepared to max out your plastics! If you think 2008 was a great year for technology—with the release of the iPhone 3G, the Mac book Air and an army of other integration-powered mobile devices—then you’re gonna be happy to know that 2009 will give you so much more. Wi-Max, virtual backups (The Cloud), wireless HD and an eerily OSX-like version of Windows are just some of the frameworks that promise revolutions in the way man lives. And we’ve got the gadgets that they’re siphoned into all lined up. Take a look:
##CONTINUE##
1. Nokia Aeon – A concept phone that features a full-touchscreen interface, the Aeon is rumored to be released into the market this year. But no official report confirms that yet. There isn’t even a lot of things that we know about it except that it’s a great-looking phone that will be the “it” accessory when it does land on the shelves.
2. Transparent Toaster – How about something for the kitchen? It’s built upon a transparent glass heating technology. Insiders say that this will come out this year as the concept is nearing its “perfection” stage; i.e. getting the glass heated enough to actually toast your bread.
3. Microsoft Arc Mouse – Combining the dependability of a desktop mouse and the portability of a notebook mouse, the Arc Mouse has a wireless range up to 30 feet. It’s a unique little thing that, as the name suggests, is arced at the bottom and not flat like conventional ones. This allows it to be folded to 60 percent of its expanded size.
4. Android OS – This operating system allows mobile phones to be more connected and interactive—more app options that can even run simultaneously. T-Mobile G1 is the first to use this platform. Sony Ericsson, Motorola and Samsung have plans to release Android-based phones this year.
5. Pacemaker – Imagine siphoning an entire DJ booth into a handheld device—that’s the craziness of the Pacemaker. Both professional DJs and wannabes will be thrilled with this. Hook it up to your headphones and you’ve got mixes on the go. Plug it into HD speakers and it’s just like being at a hot nightclub. Pretty soon, this might just be what those clubs will be using and ditch the booth altogether.
6. Custom Dell Notebooks – Individuality is the new black and Dell makes sure you got your own flavor on your notebook. Their online store offers many different notebook skin designs and there’s more to come.
7. Asus Eee Wi-Fi Keyboard – Introduced just days ago and slated to go into production soon, this wireless keyboard with integrated mic and 5-inch touchscreen (for launching apps) is envisioned to connect to just about any panels. It’s actually a limited-function PC on its own which means you can do a lot with it and your TV when they’re connected.
8. Blackberry Storm – Another innovation in the smartphone realm is provided by Blackberry. Reviewers say this is way better than the iPhone with its effective touch copy-and-paste function.
9. Sony 12.25-megapixel Sensor – What are you gonna do with a sensor, you ask? Well, this year could be the year that Sony unveils a 12-megapixel camera-integrated mobile phone. Tech circles predict it to be as soon as March, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
10. B-Membrane Computer – This is not gonna be available this year, or maybe the next few years. But you gotta give it props for being so ambitious. The easiest way to describe this prototype is that it looks like a spaceship, but it’s a computer. It doesn’t have a monitor. Instead, it has a projector. You just need anything flat. Its keyboard and mouse are membranes and they appear on the surface upon command. Upon shut down, it turns itself into an artful lamp. How’s that for futuristic?
