According to a recent report by TheRegister.com, software giant Microsoft Corp. has announced the release of an exciting new version of the desktop virtualization software to run the Windows applications on Windows Vista

The beta version is now available to the public.

Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) will allow users to run Windows XP and Windows 2000 applications on Windows Vista without the initial requirement for testing or migration, the company said.

MED-V produces a virtual PC of Windows consumers look for inside Windows Vista. The completed MED-V is will be available in the second quarter of the year.

“MED-V is based on technology from desktop virtualization vendor Kidaro, which Microsoft acquired in May 2008. It’s part of a suite of technologies called the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack that’s been assembled through acquisitions, including Softricity, DesktopStandard, AssetMetrix, and Winternals Software.”
