AMD is expected to unveil six new business-class 45nm processors during the third quarter of 2009.

According to DigiTimes, the new chips will include the following models:
* Dual-core Athlon X2 B23 (2.9GHz/2MB)
* B21 (2.7GHz/2MB)
* Triple-core Phenom II X3 B73 (2.8GHz/7.5MB)
* B71 (2.6GHz/7.5MB)
* Quad-core Phenom II X4 B93 (2.8GHz/8MB)
* B91 (2.6GHz/8MB)
The six new business-class 45nm processors may help AMD recover from a recent corporate downgrade by Moody's. Indeed, the investment giant noted "the negative outlook rating could be stabilised over time if AMD demonstrates a sustained return to profitability and positive cash flow".
As IT Examiner previously reported, AMD recently unveiled its long-awaited 45nm Quad-core AMD Opteron processor known as Shanghai. The chip offers up to a 40 per cent increase in virtualisation performance and live migration capability. In addition, AMD rolled out two new dual-core Athlon processors designed for mainstream desktops.
The X2 7750 "Black Edition" unlocked processor boasts a listed clock speed of 2.7GHz and is priced at $79. The second processor, also dubbed the X2 7750, has a clock speed of 2.5GHz and is currently reserved for the company's OEM partners. The two processors feature 512KB of Level 2 cache with each processing core and 2MB of L3 cache shared by both cores.
"About 200 engineers in the AMD India design centre in Bangalore and few more hundreds in Hyderabad played a great role aligning with US teams to come up with this [Shanghai] processor," AMD India design centre general manager Karthik Muthuswamy told IT Examiner.
Muthuswamy also explained that "the biggest challenge around the design are the certain skill sets and methodologies which we need to bring to India which is not available now."
