Online retailers also started offering pre-orders of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) Phenom II quad-core chip, which the company plans to introduce next month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. This new product is aimed at high-end desktops.

The Acer Aspire 8930G-7665 laptop is powered by Intel's new Core 2 Quad Q9000. On Sunday, Intel released an updated price list that lists the 2.0 Ghz Q9000 for $348 in batches of 1,000. In addition, pricing for Intel's other mobile quad cores start at $851, with the highest price product, the QX9300, listing for $1,038.

The Acer Aspire has an 18-inch display and includes 4 GB of memory, an Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT graphics card with 512 MB of video memory and a 500 GB hard disk drive (HDD). Furthermore, the system also includes a Blu-ray disc player, built-in Wi-Fi support, a webcam and Windows Vista Premium as an OS. The prices is around $1,800. However, in the official press release, Acer forgot to mention the fact that its new laptop has the Q9000, but a company representative clarified this mistake on Monday.

It looks like the end of the year will catch both chip makers launching their own guad core chips. If Intel will launc the Q9000, AMD is getting ready to debut its Phenom II processors. Some retailers already have this product available for pre-orders and the processor will run at speeds up to 3 Ghz, with an 8MB cache. However, neither AMD or Intel have made official announcements about either chips.
